It is never too early to get your eyes examined
It is important to get your children’s eyes checked early on to ensure that your children’s eyes are healthy and they can see their very best. Don’t forget to ask about our family appointment scheduling for elderly, teens, and adults, too! We also offer a wide selection of eyeglass frames, and we will help you find the right pair of frames to fit your face.
Regular/Comprehensive
Dr. Norman will examine all aspects of your vision, check your eye health and determine what eyeglass prescription you need, if any. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance.
Contact Lens Examination
This is a regular examination along with a contact lens fitting, evaluation, training session (if needed), and contact lens prescription. New wearers are encouraged to “test drive” the new contacts for a few days. This way you are not financially committed to purchasing a year supply of contacts until you are happy with them. Follow up contact lens visits with Dr. Norman, if needed, are free for a period of 3 months. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance. The contact lens fitting fee is usually not covered by insurance and runs between $50 to $85, depending on the lenses your eyes need. Ocular Health Examination
Dr. Norman will focus on what health problem you are having with your eyes. Whether it is a red eye, pink eye, eye infection, gunky eyes, itchy eyes, eye allergies, glaucoma, diabetes, macular degeneration, cataracts, swollen or puffy eyelids, eye pain, eye fatigue, new floaters, flashes of light in your vision, watery eyes, headaches, eye twitching, eye strain, tired eyes, vision loss, spots in your vision, cobwebs, filmy vision, sensitivity to light, or vision loss due to high blood pressure, Dr. Norman will determine the cause and treatment options. This examination may focus just on the urgent problem and not eyeglasses. Once the problem is solved, the need for glasses or contacts will be determined. There may be no need for glasses once the health problem is solved. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance.
Glaucoma Examination
Dr. Norman will specifically focus on glaucoma. If you have a family history of glaucoma, a history of high or borderline eye pressure, or other risk factors found during an eye exam, you will need this type of examination. If you have had a “quick” exam at a Wal-Mart, JCPenney, Sears, Sams Club, Target, Pearl, Vision Works or other retail optical and they said you had high eye pressures or were a glaucoma suspect, you will want to have this exam done now. Dr. Norman has the equipment for all the necessary glaucoma tests that need to be done (please see http://www.glaucoma.org/glaucoma/diagnostic-tests.php). Glaucoma is a treatable condition and one of the four leading causes of blindness. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance.

Diabetes Examination
Dr. Norman will do a comprehensive examination and specifically focus on your diabetes with tests of the retina. He will dilate you and take photographs with FAF technology to determine if you have blood vessel damage in your eyes from the diabetes. FAF technology can show damage before it is visible to the doctor. Dr. Norman has the only FAF camera in the Southeast Missouri region. If you have had a “quick” exam at a Wal-Mart, Pearl Vision, JCPenney, Sears, Sams Club, Target, Vision Works or other retail optical and they said you had some early diabetes damage, you will want to have this exam done now. Diabetes is one of the four leading causes of blindness. Dr. Norman will assess your diabetic retinopathy and determine if you need any laser treatment. He will discuss with you and your PCP (primary care physician) regarding your eye health so that your PCP will know how to adjust your medication. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance. Post-surgical examinations occur after the surgery and are short visits where Dr. Norman checks on your healing. These visits are included in your global surgery fees. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance. For more information on cataracts, click HERE.
LASIK and PRK Examination

If so, Dr. Norman will help you set a date for surgery with a local surgeon. Post-surgical examinations occur after the surgery and are short visits where Dr. Norman checks on your healing. These visits are included in your global surgery fees. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance.
Dry Eye Examination
Dr. Norman will do a comprehensive examination and assess your dry eyes. Specific testing will check severity and cause. Dr. Norman will work with you to solve your dryness with medications or other options including homeopathy and punctal occlusion (see http://www.allaboutvision.com/conditions/punctal-plugs.htm). Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance.
Computer Vision Examination
Smartphone and computer use is at an all-time high. Eye strain, eye fatigue and headaches from computer use are a major cause of frustration. Norman does a comprehensive examination for computer vision problems and will test your vision at a computer workstation to confirm your need for glasses or contact lenses (see http://www.allaboutvision.com/cvs/computer_glasses.htm). He may also recommend a specific tint to reduce glare (reflected light) which can cause eyestrain. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance
Plaquenil or Hydroxychloroquine Examination
If you are taking Plaquenil or Hydroxychloroquine for arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis or another condition it is recommended that you get your eyes examined twice yearly due to potential side effects that can cause vision loss if undetected. Norman will do a comprehensive examination, check your macular visual field and take photographs with FAF technology. FAF technology can show macular damage before it is visible to the naked eye. Dr. Norman has the only FAF camera in the Southeast Missouri region. Your health or vision insurance will cover the cost of the examination. You may have a copay or deductible, depending on your insurance. Dr. Norman will communicate the results of the examination with your Rheumatologist.
Children’s Examination
Kids under the age of 7 have a short attention span. Things are new for just a few minutes. Dr. Norman makes the testing go quickly and at the child’s level. Dr. Norman is good with kids and has 5 of his own. The other day he saw a 4 year old, and in the middle of the exam she said, “This is fun mommy!”
